Running VM causes host CD drive to not work

Description
On a Mac at least, OS 10.5.6, VB 2.1.4, if you are running a virtual machine (Win XP in this case) and insert a CD/DVD it will not be read by the host or guest OS. You must shut down the virtual machine, then the host can read the disk. At that point once the host mounts it, you can boot up the guest again and it will be read. At this point, if you eject from the guest you can insert another disk and it mounts in the guest fine, but not on the host. The behavior inconsistent, and you should never have to shut down a guest to retrieve an otherwise stuck disk that will not eject.
