Description
Host OS = Ubuntu 22.04, 64 bit, latest updates Target (VM) OS = Ubuntu 24.04 (ISO file has been downloaded) VirtualBox Version 7.0.22
Steps:
- Create new VM, use default options
- Start new VM
- Select "try or install ubuntu" in boot menu
- Select "install ubuntu" as soon as booting from iso file is complete
- Select default options for installation of Ubuntu
Expected Results:
- Ubuntu can be installed in the new VM
Observed Results:
- Installer hangs after about 1 minute. The clock does not move forward.
Logs:
- Available
Notes:
- There are many posts on the internet about VirtualBox hanging, but all seem to concern having a Windows OS as host. In my case the host is Ubuntu.
- I have retried the above using only one CPU core and with minimum virtualization, but this didn't solve the issue

A User to User suggestion.
Try increasing the VRAM allocation from 16MB to 128MB and then re-run the VM.

I decided to use this ticket instead of duplicating another, I am able to successfully install Virtualbox on Ubuntu 22.04 but Virtualbox won't start and pointed me to submit the attached (vbox.log) to the community.
