Description
Hello, I am running a fresh installation of oracle virtual box on my Windows 10 based notebook. Just installed a Win10 and Win11 guest, both are just crashing (running window of my machine disappears) and virtual box sets the status of the vm to aborted. The machines are just fresh installed, of course with guest additions. I don't know what to do, please help me.

I have the same problem on a Windows 11 guest on a Linux host. Started being a problem when I upgraded to VBox 7 from the latest 6.1 version. The Guest Additions installer runs part way and then the guest aborts. Rebooting shows that Windows 11 thinks that the GAs are installed, but it may be incomplete....there are graphics issues on resizing the Guest windows, and some transparency problem as well as at least one program (The Steam games control center) doesn't draw at all - just a black rectangle with no window controls.
ETA: running the GA installer again aborts the Guest again - it's repeatable.
ETA2: Same problem is repeatable on a Windows 10 Guest.

I tried to use version 6.1. In this version there appears no error and the machine is running since 3 hours I think. There seems to be some big bugs in version 7.

Just updated to 7.0.2 and associated extension pack. Same symptoms on W11 are seen when installing the Guest Additions.

I'm seeing this (guest crashes on installation of GAs) on a Linux host and Win10 guest + virtualbox 7.0.2 GAs.

This is unfortunately not reproducible here so far, please try to provide a core dump as describd here.

It took a bit of work to get a crash dump, as I think the instructions may be a bit out of date. I now have a crash dump file in /var/crash, but it's 37Mb in size, and the limit for attachments here is 512k. How do I get it to you?

Please compress it and mail it to Alexander (dot) Eichner (at) oracle (dot) com.

Alexander....I sent it as a Google Drive link, as it was still over 25Mb after compression. If that doesn't work for any reason, like corporate security hating random downloads from the outside world (I would!), let me know. In any case, make sure to have it scanned for security reasons.

I have a similar issue. It seems it is also related to https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/21240

Appears to be a duplicate of #21174, will hopefully be fixed in the next maintenance release. Please reopen and comment there if not after the release.

Hi,
I just installed the upgrade to Version 7.0.4 r154605 (Qt5.15.6), and the same crash is happening. I started a W11 guest, and used the new menu pick in the Devices menu, "Upgrade Guest Addition", and it runs to around 81% and then aborts as before.
Hi. I'm not sure if posting my input here is permitted or not but I'm here myself because I was about to log a similar ticket, where Server 2022 crashes during guest addition installation. This was both as upgrade to previous version, as well as uninstall reinstall approach. The last thing I tried which actually solved my issue was to ensure Server 2022 was updated, I applied pending updates and went from version 10.0.20348.1006 to 10.0.20348.1129, after which the guest additions installed fine.
