Windows 11 guest hangs at startup on Linux host

Description

  • Windows 11 Guest
  • VM was created with Virtual Box 6.38 (I think) set up registry to bypass TPM checks.

Updated Virtual Box to 7.0.

When starting guest OS, I can see Windows progress animation for a while and then it just freezes

It probably not freezes, but just can't display anything. This is because the video driver from GA v6 isn't compatible with VBox v7.

I already described this issue and probably solution in the beta forum. Key feature: Windows safe mode.

thanks, you are right; now I am able to boot into safe mode but when I try to install GA v7 Windows blue screens in VBoxMouse

Looks like a *null pointer deference* ?

I'll try to find a way to install only the other drivers and skip the mouse one

You can easily install them manually. The drivers are all in the program folder of the GA after installation. Otherwise, you have to unpack the installation EXE with 7-zip, for example, and find the drivers there.

I ended up uninstalling the previous GA version and then 7.0 installation went through.

But now I am observing the same issue describe in the linked forum above (https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=106990)
