#20996 awaitsfeedback defect

No guest connection with bridged adapter

Reported by: rpijoan_lsw Owned by:
Component: network Version: VirtualBox 6.1.34
Keywords: bridged adapter Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Mac OS X

Description

I recently upgraded my iMac to Monterey 12.4 and updated VBox to 6.1.14.

I've noticed that I'm not able to connect a Linux guest I had running in Catalina with a bridged adapter. It seems to try to connect but it doesn't work at all. (I tried to change the adapter too and MAC address but no success so far.)

NAT with port-forwarding works well.

The 'Version:' field of this ticket shows 6.1.34 so if you upgraded from a version earlier than 6.1.28 you are probably running into the following change which is mentioned in the 6.1.28 Changelog as:

Network: More administrative control over host-only network ranges to prevent trouble due to misconfiguration, see user manual. Check updated documentation or your VMs may stop working!

The relevant section of the VirtualBox manual is here. Note the details about the additional configuration required if you need to access IP addresses outside of 192.168.56.0/21.

If this isn't the root cause of your issue we'll need more details about your network setup to make progress on figuring out what is wrong.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
