Component: | other | Version: | VirtualBox 6.0.10 |
Keywords: | New VM wizard. | Cc: | |
Guest type: | all | Host type: | all |
Description
Steps to reproduce
- Menu "Machine" » "New...", "Guided Mode".
- Enter the VM name, e.g. "Windows 2012".
- Press "Continue", a directory with the same name is created in the default VM location.
- Press "Back", because you realize that you actually wanted to be in "Expert" mode.
- Switch to "Expert Mode".
- Re-enter the VM name "Windows 2012", because the two wizards are independent, AFAIK.
- Press "Create".
Cannot create the machine folder Windows 2012 in the parent folder /Users/Shared/VirtualBox/Machines.
This folder already exists and possibly belongs to another machine.
Steps to reproduce, part deux
- Menu "Machine" » "New...", "Guided Mode".
- Enter the VM name, e.g. "Windows 2012".
- Press "Continue", a directory with the same name is created in the default VM location.
- Press "Back", because you realize that you inputted the wrong VM name.
- Change the VM name to "Windows 2012 (64)".
- You still have a directory named "Windows 2012" in the default location.
Resolution
When backing up at step 4, make sure that the newly created empty directory is deleted.
Note
I put in 6.0.10 as the version affected, but obviously this goes way, way back...
