Interesting find. I tried to replicate it on an OSX 10.11.6 host with a WinXP and a Win7 SP1 VM, both running under VirtualBox 5.2.5 (120042), but it was working on both of them.

I did notice something "strange" in your log:

00:00:01.565209 Executable: A:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\VirtualBox.exe

Can you explain the "A:\" part? Are you using Portable VirtualBox or something similar?

A is my main installation location as C is an SSD which i try to keep only windows and little as possible on.

Might help if I also mention my host pc is windows 10 pro, Version 1709, Build 16299.192

Also the guest is WinXP Pro SP3

I am using Version "5.2.4 r119785 (Qt5.6.2)" though so maybe it is an issue with the windows version that doesn't occur in the OSX version or is already fixed in the development build

have added the logs, followed all the instructions the best i could but the guest log doesn't seem to provide much info.

I also found out that the transfer issue is only one way. Host to Guest can transfer the 0byte file fine, but Guest to host results in error.

I still experience this bug in 5.2.20 (sorry for duplicate: #18109)

Need to reopen this ticket.

Though I beleive #18109 has clearer explanation of the bug.
