Description
I saved a snapshot Januari 1. It contained VirtualBox 5.1.12 and at that time, the current version of Windows 10. After a Windows update in April 13 the screen in Windows i just black.
I have tried to update to VirtualBox 5.1.22 and 5.1.23 and running a new Windows update. Still a black screen after logging in to Windows.
If I revert to VirtualBox 5.1.12 and the snapshot from Januari, everything looks fine. After a Windows update the screen turns black.
The host is running OS X version 10.12.5

As per the discussion in https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=83316, the Windows 10 VM was somehow corrupted. A boot from the Win10 ISO and a repair, seems to have fixed the problem.
I believe that this ticket can be closed now.

Thanks the for the information!
Shut down completely the VM, and then update VirtualBox. What you are doing is similar to changing the motherboard of the computer, while the computer is sleeping. It's expected that the computer might crash...
May I suggest something? It's usually better and faster, if problems like this one (configuration, question) get first addressed in the VirtualBox forums. More than 95% of the issues are resolved over there, which keeps the developers focusing on the bug fixes and enhancements, and there is no need for another ticket to keep track of. For example, yours is most probably not a bug and someone from the developers has to deal with it and close it as "Invalid".
So, if you still have problems after the above procedure, please open a new thread in the VirtualBox on Mac OS X Hosts, or in the Using VirtualBox section of the forums.
