error reuse physical disk after open "computer management" console

If I open "computer management" console (in Win 7x64 host), to use the physical disk becomes impossible (io error, write error etc.), guest system becomes unbootable. Also to install guest, had to remove pre-existing disk partition. Only then became possible to format it from the guest system.

Is it possible to make a mapped physical drive does not fall off when restart host system?

I used the following command:

Did you notice the warning in Chapter 9.9.1?

Warning: Raw hard disk access is for expert users only. Incorrect use or use of an outdated configuration can lead to total loss of data on the physical disk. Most importantly, do not attempt to boot the partition with the currently running host operating system in a guest. This will lead to severe data corruption.

What you posted does not seem like a bug to me. It seems like incorrect usage, unless you can prove otherwise.

I should have added that a lot of people have used the 'rawdisk' option with great success, including myself, that is why I considered this to be an incorrect usage case, rather than a bug.

a product should be complete at is best. Mounting a physical hard drive should of been a basic standard in the software. IT,s clear to anyone if you install a virtual software like Virtualbox that you should choose the options 1- install your os from scratch, or from an image or you have a physical disk 2- how you going to secure it. give access read and write. that should be a basic. the system should of scan all the drives and allow me to select what I want to do. (not to play arround with commands and so on... If users have to play with command line so much than forget the Gui) thank you"...

Nico07, your last comment is completely irrelevant for this ticket. First, using a raw hard disk from inside a virtual machine is dangerous. And that's the reason why this feature is not available in the GUI -- it's meant for advanced users who know what they do.

To me it seems that you access the same partition from your guest and from your host. If you open the computer management console on the host then (host) Windows will most likely scan all partitions and might even write content -- which will most likely lead to the error you saw.

As socratis wrote, I don't think this is a VirtualBox bug at all.
