Description
I am trying to set up Hadoop on my Windows XP "Hp Pavalion zt3000" that has pae.
1) I installed the most recent version of VirtualBox.
Then I set up the machine "JomoLInux", The memory, 353 MB and the virtual drive .... 12.5 Gb
2) The machine came up with no problem and I started it.
It said that it had no operating system.
3) Then I downloaded Ubunto 13.04 32 bit for desktop.
Then I set up a virtual drive in VirtualBox and assign the Ubunto iso to this drive and rebooted.
4) This is the error message that I received :
"This kernel requires the following features not present on the cpu : pae ...... Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU."
5) I then powered down the VirtualBox and went to "Settings" -> "System" -> "Processor". And the Extended features _ Enable PAE/NX was geyed out by default. This means that it was turned "off" and I could not turn it on.
6) I then figured out how to turn on PAE via the API
VboxManage modifyvm Jomo-LInux -- pae on
7) I then went back to the UI in Vertual Manage and PAE was checked as "on". However there appers to be a minor problem - it was also greyed out.
8) When I rebooted my system and restarted VirtualBox, when it tried to install Ubunto I still received the same message. Even though it showed PAE as checked as "on" it was actually not turned on. I believe that this a bug in your software.
Sincerely Yours,
Jomo Willacy
Please try again with VBox 4.3.6. If it still does not work, please attach a VBox.log file of your guest VM. It will show the configuration of your host and your VM.
