UserManual.pdf not searchable in OSX 10.6.8. Preview

Description
I have a copy of UserManual.pdf (for VirtualBox 4.2.14). Using Preview.app on OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard), I tried to search the file (via Edit > Find) for terms such as Guest. Although Preview did not complain, I didn't get any results, either. Preview on OSX 10.7.5 (Lion) finds things OK.

I have tried two different PDF viewers and both are capable of searching the 4.2.14 user manual. Sounds to me more like a bug of the OSX app than of the user manual.
