initial v1 1 I had the same problem with: 2 host: Win 7 Home Premium x64 3 guest: Win 8.1 Pro x64 1 I had the same problem with:[[BR]] 2 host: Win 7 Home Premium x64[[BR]] 3 guest: Win 8.1 Pro x64[[BR]] 4 4 but I took snapshoot after pure install of Win 8.1 and was able to rollback every unsuccesful attempt of installing guest additions. 5 5 6 1st attempt: 7 Enabled PAE/NX 8 Enabled 2D Acceleration 6 1st attempt:[[BR]] 7 Enabled PAE/NX[[BR]] 8 Enabled 2D Acceleration[[BR]] 9 9 result: black screen and reboot 10 10 11 2nd attempt: 12 Enabled PAE/NX 13 Enabled 2D Acceleration 14 Enabled 3D Acceleration (as someone above suggested) 11 2nd attempt:[[BR]] 12 Enabled PAE/NX[[BR]] 13 Enabled 2D Acceleration[[BR]] 14 Enabled 3D Acceleration (as someone above suggested)[[BR]] 15 15 result: black screen and reboot 16 16 17 3rd attempt: 18 Disabled PAE/NX 19 Disabled 2D Acceleration 20 Disabled 3D Acceleration 17 3rd attempt:[[BR]] 18 Disabled PAE/NX[[BR]] 19 Disabled 2D Acceleration[[BR]] 20 Disabled 3D Acceleration[[BR]] 21 21 result: black screen for less than second and after this blink guest additions' installation wizard prompts with "reboot now" / "reboot later". Everything works.
